I have always been interested in needle work, and from an early age started to make my own clothes - often with the help of my mother who was a very good seamstress.  As a child, my mother made many of my clothes, often copies of something from 'M & S'.  Mum used to find the same materials often for sale in the markets in Manchester and Stockport, which was where I was brought up.

 

I left Manchester in the late 1980's to live in Roy Bridge in the heart of the Highlands, which is where I met my husband Brian.  He trains border collies for work, sale and sheep dog trials.

 

Following the birth of our two children, I decided that I couldn't practically go out to work, and decided to start up a small sewing alterations business, with just a few small adverts in Lochaber Life (our local free magazine), and a poster in the back of my car!

 

Within a few months I had repeat orders from many of my clients, and word was spreading throughtout Fort William and Lochaber.  My small business, run from the house, was expanding.  

 

As our children grew, so did my business, mainly by word of mouth, which I have found to be the best way.  

 

In 2006 I was approached by the village hall committee, to see if I would be interested in renting the room on the first floor above the post office, should it be renovated.  OF COURSE!!, I couldn't wait, with the children being at school, I had more time, and was desparate to move the business out of the house.  In June 2006, I took on the workshop, and haven't looked back.  I saw a niche in the market for tartan curtains, and a friend at www.rcbsystems.co.uk built a very sucessful site for me www.tartan-curtains.com

 

More recently I have been asked to make more and more curtains and drapes, where the client provides the main fabric for the curtains, and I supply everything else.  I only use the best quality curtain linings and header tapes, and my curtains are hand finshed, weighted, and supplied complete with cord tidies, so no more unsightly cords hanging from the side of the curtains.
